ESS Field Trip 2014-Aravali Hills

Grade 12 ESS Field Trip-Aravali hills

Let’s be honest here: when you are called to school on a Saturday at 7:30 in the morning, it’s never good news.

The simple fact:  Saturday and Sunday are the two days when one is able to sleep a bit and mentally prepare themselves for the upcoming week. And not a lot of people appreciate the fact that they lose out on some of that when called to school, or work, on a weekend. However, this depends a lot on what you much before time.

On 7th September 2014, the students of Environmental Systems and Societies aka EVSS embarked on a trip to the Chandrapur Forest, which is just next to Aklimpur, the village that is supported so strongly by our school. The aim of the experiment was to check the soil temperature in various areas. We were six groups in total, combining the classes of 12B4 and 12B5.

In fact, our teacher, Guru Sir was pleasantly surprised and commented on the cooperation shown by team members, and how we accomplished our goal much before the stipulated time. Yes, there were some mishaps. While we can pat ourselves on the back, we must admit that we did sacrifice a few thermometers in the excitement of getting the experiments done as fast as possible.

This survey was followed by another survey which involved meeting people in the vicinity of the village Aklimpur, where the residents were asked about their needs and their lives, and their current needs and the needs of the village. Most of the villagers said that we need a proper bus for commuting from the city and back, and that we need better supply of water and electricity.

It was disheartening to hear that what we take so much for granted are those that these villagers are in desperate need of. While we really wanted to reach out and help them and we hope to do so someday, it also strengthened our resolve and appreciate what we have in our lives.

We were graced with good weather all the way, and it was not an issue during our work to stand for long. The trip, in conclusion, was a success.
